Itinerary

Day 1. Welcome to Norway: trekking and kayaking in the fjords

Overnight stay: Bergen

The first day of our trekking and kayaking adventure in the Norwegian fjords will be to reach Bergen, Norway's second largest city in the southwest of the country. The city unfolds between the green mountains and the deep blue sea like a postcard and provides the perfect setting for us to begin to focus on all that this trip has to offer.

Day 2. Fjord coast

Distance: 89 mn
Difficulty: ●○○○○
Overnight stayStavanger : Stavanger

In the morning we will have the opportunity to enjoy Bergen, together with Oslo, the great city of Norway. Its history and Viking origins can be found at every turn. Don't miss a stroll through the Bryggen district, with its lively and picturesque streets full of crafts and cafés and the Hanseatic quay, a UNESCO World Heritage Site.

After visiting the city, we will embark on a ferry that will take us along the intricate Norwegian coast to Stavanger, a navigation of 89 nautical miles that will give us time to discover the impressive landscape of the mouths of the fjords.

On arrival in Stavanger, we will visit the imposing Sverd i Fjell monument, which commemorates the battle of 872 after which King Harald Hårfagre united all of Norway under the same crown.

Day 3. Sunrise at Preikestolen

Distance: 8 km
Difficulty: ●●●○○
Overnight stayStavanger : Stavanger

On the third day we have to get up early in order to do one of the most impressive treks in Norway. During the early morning we will make the ascent to Preikestolen, also known as "the Pulpit". After a hike of about 2.5 hours we will reach the top to witness one of the most sublime encounters with nature: the sunrise over the Lysefjord or "fjord of light", from a viewpoint at 640 m above sea level. After the spectacle and with our retinas full of emotions, we will start our descent just in time to avoid the massive arrival of tourists - not in vain is it one of the most visited places in the country.

In the afternoon we will have free time to visit the historic centre of Stavanger, where the white houses of Gamle Stavanger combine with the colourful street of Øvre Holmegate in the vicinity of the city's lively harbour. It is also possible to take an optional boat trip to explore the Lyse Fjord.

Day 4. The valley of waterfalls

Distance: 12 km
Difficulty: ●●●○○
Overnight stay: Odda

In the morning we leave Stavanger and head north to the village of Odda, in a valley full of waterfalls. Just a short distance from the road we can see Vidfossen, Espelandsfossen and Låtefossen.

Afternoon, we will approach to contemplate the glacier front of the Buarbreen, which runs deep into the valley, and then take a short walk to get a closer look at the waterfall. Strandfossen and, in the distance, Tjørnadalsfossen.

Day 5. Kayaking in Hardanger Fjord

Distance: 12 km
Difficulty: ●●○○○
Overnight stay: Sogndal

On the fifth day of this Norwegian fjord trekking and kayaking trip we leave Odda early in the morning and head to Hardangerfjorden, Norway's second largest fjord. We will arrive via the Hardangerbrua suspension bridge and set out to kayak (no previous experience necessary) through the calm, crystal clear turquoise waters of the fjord. We may also spot seals and porpoises, which frequent the area.

After sailing we will head for Sogndal via the picturesque village of Flåm, where we will visit the Stegastein lookout, a structure that projects 30 m beyond the edge, 650 m above the Aurlandsfjord, a branch of the famous Sognefjord, the Fjord of Dreams. It is Norway's longest and deepest fjord (204 km long) and the second largest in the world. Flåm is one of the most picturesque villages in Norway, so we will have time to discover it on our penultimate day.

Day 6. Crampon trekking in Jostedalsbreen

Distance: 6 km
Difficulty: ●●●○○
Overnight stay: Sogndal

On the sixth day of our Nordic adventure we will enjoy the largest glacier in continental Europe, the Jostedalsbreen. On this glacier we will take a guided hike with crampons through the impressive ice towers and deep blue crevasses.

We will start by taking a small boat to cross the glacial lake in front of the glacier. After an explanation of the equipment and its use, we will walk for about 2 and a half hours with crampons on the ice discovering its crevasses and formations and then return along the same route we took to get there. Previous experience is not necessary for this activity, but high boots are recommended to protect the ankle from the crampon straps.

Day 7. Flåm Train and Naeroyfjord
