Your adventure will begin by arriving in the town of Sarria, 114 km from Compostela. The town has become famous for being one of the most popular starting points of the Camino today. The first stage of this Way of St. James from Sarria will take you along rural roads and the famous Galician corredoiras, narrow paths under oak trees and other native species that connect the small villages that dot the landscape. This initial route will set the dominant tone of the landscape for the next few days: rural spaces and green nature, and a good number of walkers who will undoubtedly walk the Camino along your path and with whom you will be able to chat and, who knows, make good friends.

At the gates of Portomarín you will cross the great river Miño, the most important river in Galicia and under whose waters the old town lies. The modern town was built in the 1960s, moving some emblematic buildings to save them from the waters of the reservoir (such as the church-fortress of San Nicolás) and building new ones in a unique mixture.

A new stage to continue the Way of St. James from Sarria, leaving Portomarín behind and ascending first to Castro Maior - an ancient Celtic settlement - and then to the Ligonde mountain range, before gradually descending through the villages of Eirexe and Ligonde.

Once in Palas de Rei you will have the opportunity to visit the castle of Pambre, one of the castles that survived the destruction of the Irmandiñas revolts that the Galician peasants carried out in the 15th century.

On this fourth day of the Camino de Santiago from Sarria awaits the longest walk. There are almost 29 km that make many people decide to split the stage in two, spending the night in Melide, halfway.

Whether you do or not, the keynote of the day will be, once again, beautiful rural roads and medieval bridges like the one you will find at the gates of Melide, where you should not leave without trying a portion of its famous polbo á feira, one of the most characteristic and special octopus dishes of popular Galician gastronomy.

From there, the Camino continues through an agricultural landscape that will lead you to cross the beautiful river Iso and, finally, to your goal and your well-deserved rest in Arzúa. If you still have strength left or if you have decided to start the stage, we recommend a visit to the neighbouring monastery of Sobrado dos Monxes. In any case, don't leave Arzúa without tasting its famous Arzúa-Ulloa cheese, one of the most highly prized cheeses in Galicia's cheese-making tradition.

Now the last day of your adventure begins. The city of the apostle awaits you after less than 20 km. After leaving O Pedrouzo behind, you will climb up through O Amenal and descend towards A Lavacolla, the village that gives its name to Compostela's airport. From there, a new ascent will take you directly to Monte do Gozo, whose name reveals the joy of the pilgrims who, since the first millennium, arrived in Santiago by this route and saw, for the first time, the longed-for silhouette of the towers of the Cathedral.

Only four kilometres separate you from the city centre, which you will enter through the popular neighbourhoods of San Lázaro, Fontiñas or San Pedro and the famous Porta do Camiño. Here, in what the Compostela locals call the "zona vella", this route of the Way of St. James from Sarria ends. It will then be time to manage your Compostela and walk around the city at your leisure.
